The Ayurvedic Morning Routine: Start Your Day with Purpose
Share
How you begin your morning sets the tone for your entire day. Ayurveda prescribes a morning routine called 'Dinacharya' that aligns your body with nature's natural cycles for optimal energy and health.
Wake Up Before Sunrise
The Brahma Muhurta — the time about 90 minutes before sunrise — is considered the most sattvic (pure) time of day. Waking during this window enhances mental clarity and spiritual awareness.
Tongue Scraping & Oil Pulling
Scraping the tongue removes toxins (Ama) that accumulate overnight. Follow with oil pulling using sesame or coconut oil for 5–10 minutes to cleanse the oral cavity and support dental health.
Warm Water with Herbs
Start your day with a glass of warm water infused with ginger, lemon, or Triphala. This gently awakens the digestive fire (Agni) and promotes healthy elimination.
Abhyanga (Self-Massage)
A daily self-massage with warm sesame oil nourishes the skin, calms the nervous system, and improves circulation. Even 5 minutes of Abhyanga can make a noticeable difference in how grounded and energised you feel.
Herbal Supplements
Take your Ayurvedic wellness supplements in the morning with warm water for best absorption. Consistency in timing helps your body recognise and respond to the herbs more effectively.
Building a mindful morning routine is one of the most powerful investments you can make in your long-term health and wellbeing.
